Bollwood mega-stars like Akshay Kumar, Salman, Katrina, Priyanka, Hrithik, Sunny and many more donate generously to combat Covid-19
by Chaitanya Padukone – Even as the dreaded global pandemic COVID-19 is rapidly spreading in India and has affected over 1700 reported affected patients with over 35 reported deaths, the initial 21-days nation-wide total ‘lockdown’ has adversely affected the financial economics of Bollywood. That’s because all cinema theatres, multiplexes in shopping malls, shootings, recordings and live events have been entirely closed,stopped or discontinued for three weeks up to April 15th 2020. This has resulted in an estimated Rs 900/- crores plus mounting colossal loss for the Bollywood entertainment industry. Despite the distressing odds, the large-hearted Samaritans of Bollywood especially those like super-stars Akshay Kumar, Salman Khan have offered their generous donations towards the prevention and treatment of the scary contagious Corona Virus disease.. Whether in cash or kind, more and more Bollywood celebs from the Hindi entertainment industry are coming forward to offer support during the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak.
Melody-queen Lata Mangeshkar announced on Twitter that she was donating Rs 25 lakh to the Chief Minister’s Assistance Fund as part of her “duty to help your government during this difficult time”.”I have a humble request to all that we should help the government as much as possible in the fight against the government,” the revered veteran singer Lata-didi tweeted. In what can be called the biggest generous gesture by a B-Town celebrity, Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, pledged to donate Rs 25 crores in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic. This development apparently coincides and comes in the wake of a section of netizens accusing Bollywood stars of not contributing to help those struggling with the Covid-19 crisis.
Author and outspoken columnist-actress Twinkle Khanna lauded her husband Akshay’s gesture, and said that she was very proud of him. She also wrote that he didn’t think twice about making this donation Meanwhile the charming Sara Ali Khan also pledged an undisclosed amount towards the relief work in order to combat COVID-19 spread in the country.
“I pledge to donate to the PM CARES Fund and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (Maharashtra)… Every contribution counts, and solidarity is our only hope against this pandemic,” the popular ‘Simmba’ actress wrote on Instagram. The feisty Priyanka Chopra along with pop-star-husband Nick Jonas, (‘Nickyanka’)donated an undisclosed huge amount to ten charities including Prime Minister’s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM-CARES), and UNICEF Taking to Twitter, ‘The Sky Is Pink’ and ‘Mary Kom’ star-actress Priyanka said these ten organisations are doing “amazing work” by helping those impacted by the Covid-19 outbreak.

I salute the efforts of all those on the frontlines who are putting themselves at risk so the rest of us stay safe,” wrote the ‘Raazi’ lead actress in a statement on Twitter. Veteran actor Nana Patekar sent out a tweet along with a video message, announcing that he will be donating Rs 50 lakh to the PM CARES fund to support India’s fight against Covid-19. Bollywood superstar Salman Khan pledged to financially support 25,000 daily wage workers from the film industry in the wake of the national lockdown, according to Federation of Western Indian Cine Employees (FWICE). The ‘War’ movie superstar actor Hrithik Roshan was among the first celebs to step up for those in need and make a significant contribution to help fight the crisis. As the number of corona virus cases in India crossed the 1600 mark, Roshan sent out a tweet, announcing that he had procured thousands of N95 and FFP3 masks for the BMC municipal workers and other caretakers. The move was welcomed and lauded by netizens all over the country. The 46-year-old star also sent out a tweet, thanking Aaditya Thackeray, son of Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray, for giving him an opportunity to help curb the spread of the pandemic Veteran star M.P.danseuse and versatile actress, Hema Malini, ( M.P.from Mathura ) released a whopping amount of Rs 1 crore from the MPLADS (Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme) funds for countering the virus. Actor Rajkummar Rao on Sunday voiced his support and donated to PM’s Relief Fund, CM’s Relief Fund and also to Zomato Feeding India to aid the battle against COVID-19. Stunning star actress Katrina Kaif announced on Monday that she will be making her contributions to the PM CARES Fund and Maharashtra Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to help the nation combat the coronavirus outbreak.The 36-year-old stunning ‘Tiger Zinda Hai’ lead actress took to Instagram to make an announcement. Kaif donated an undisclosed amount to PM CARES fund.
“Heartbreaking to see the hardship and suffering this pandemic has unleashed in the world,” her post further read. “It’s time to stand together & to help our administration in this fight against Coronavirus. I’ve done my bit, “she said. The ‘Love Aaj Kal’ star-hero Kartik Aaryan took to Instagram to share his thoughts on the ongoing crisis and said said it’s the “absolute need of the hour” for people to come together as a nation. “Whatever I am, whatever money I’ve earned, is only because of the people of India; and for us I am contributing Rs. 1 crore to the PM-CARES Fund. I urge all my fellow Indians also to help as much as possible,” wrote Kartik. Actor-politician Sunny Deol, who is known for his popular roles in films like ‘Gadar- Ek Prem Katha’ and ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’, announced a donation of Rs 50 lakh from his MPLADS fund. The Gurdaspur star-MP will use the funds for buying necessary medical equipment needed to fight the virus. “I am withdrawing Rs 50 lakh from MPLADS fund so Gurdaspur doesn’t have to face difficulty fighting this pandemic,” Deol wrote on Twitter. Celebrity-favourite designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee on Saturday pledged to donate Rs 10 million (Rs 1 crore) of personal funds to the PM’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) and Rs 5 million (Rs 5 lakh) to the Chief Minister of West Bengal’s Relief Fund . Stand-up comedian Kapil Sharma, too, stood up for the nation and donated a sum of Rs 50 lakh to the Prime Minister Relief Fund to help fight corona virus in the country.
