Charmingly-glam TV star Shubhangi Atre on ‘why she identifies so much with her iconic character ‘Angoori-bhabhi’

by Chaitanya Padukone — Stunningly beautiful actress Shubhangi Atre has become a household name ever since she took on the endearing TV character of Angoori Bhabhi in Edit-II producers Binaifer Kohli and Sanjay Kohli’s top TRPs immensely popular comedy TV show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain ( on &TV and also streaming on ZEE5 ) ! The actress’s disarming charm has got everyone looking forward to seeing her on their television sets every day. Shubhangi has been part of the television industry for over a decade and has seen many changes come into the industry for good. However, one of the changes stands out when she has to point out how the Indian television industry has evolved over the years.

“I think the television industry has become a lot more organised. Earlier there used too many erratic shoots, and schedules which were day and night long. Things have become much better in terms of timings. Also there is a lot of work for almost all actors. Ever since OTT web-series platform has come, things have changed and there are more stories to tell, more viewership and actors are getting plenty of interesting roles and work in general,” says the exuberant Shubhangi who has a fleeting resemblance to former retro-Bollywood star-heroine Leena Chandavarkar-Ganguly (of ‘Main Sunder Hoon’ and ‘Manchali’ fame). She goes on to add, “At times I do feel that maybe content-wise we need to improve but otherwise there have been many amazing positive changes.”

Glam-girl Shubhangi also known for her catch-phrase “Sahi Pakde Hain” (You Caught It Right) in ‘Bhabhi-ji…’ has been playing the chulbuli character of Angoori Bhabhi for almost four years now. What makes it better for her is that she connects with it even at a personal level.

“Angoori is such an innocent person. Her biggest USP is her simplicity and innocence and that is why I relate to her so much. She is also very homely in nature and I believe I too, to a certain extent am like that. The only difference is that I am a working woman but her innocence and simplicity is very fascinating and I believe even the audience like that a lot. I think 60 percent of Angoori is me because your face is the mirror of the character. It was very important that this character is innocent. I am the youngest in my family so, people treat me like a kid even today. So, I think even today I have a bit of childishness in me and that has helped me a lot with the character of Angoori,” she says.

The talented actress is also in praise of her co-stars Aasif Sheikh and Rohitashv Goud, who play the characters of Vibhuti Narayan and Manmohan Tiwari, respectively.

Always praising her supportive co-stars, Shubhangi also highly appreciates her dynamic producers Binaifer and ( her hubby) Sanjay Kohli too. “Working with Binaifer and Sanjay Kohli has been a wonderful, sentimental experience. They know what they are doing and that reflects in the storyline too. It has been a great journey so far. We shoot with so much ease and comfort,” concludes the affable actress.
