Previously the affable Khan was undergoing intensive care medical; treatment since 2018 in the U.K. for neuro-endocrine tumour.’Sahebzaade Irrfan Ali Khan’ ( that’s his real name) passed away at an untimely age of just 53 years . The entire Bollywood industry has been rattled with shock and disbelief . Almost every other celeb-actor or actress From Amitabh to Shabana Azmi and from Anupam Kher to film ‘Lunch-Box’ co-star Nimrat Kaur and ‘Hindi Medium’ movie co-star Saba Qamar have been tweeting or sharing condolences and fond memories and personal adulation Legendary superstar Amitabh Bachchan who was Irrfan’s co-star in the landmark movie ‘Piku’ tweeted, “ Just getting news of the passing away of Irrfan Khan .. this is a most disturbing and sad news .. An incredible talent .. a gracious colleague .. a prolific contributor to the World of Cinema .. left us too soon .. creating a huge vacuum .. Prayers and duas,’ . A statement released by his family read, “Irrfan was buried at the Versova kabristan (graveyard) in Mumbai at 3 pm this afternoon soon after the news of his passing away was announced. In presence were his family, close relatives and friends. Everyone paid their final respects and mourned the loss of his passing away. We pray for his peace and we hope he’s in a better place today. He was strong in his fight, and we all have to be strong too in this loss.” His sons Babil and Ayan performed his last rites, with barely five members from his family in attendance. This was due to the nationwide stringent lockdown imposed to stop the spread of the dreaded pandemic of novel coronavirus, Irrfan’s movie-industry close celeb-friends were not being allowed to reach the Kabristan.
However, noted filmmaker-composer Vishal Bhardwaj, who has worked with Irrfan on projects like Haider and Saat Khoon Maaf, was at the graveyard to pay his last respects. An official statement on Irrfan’s death read, “‘I trust, I have surrendered’; These were the some of the many words that Irrfan expressed in a heartfelt note he wrote in 2018, opening up about his fight with cancer. And a man of few words and an actor of silent expressions with his deep eyes and his memorable actions on screen”. It’s saddening that this day, we have to bring forward the news of him passing away. Irrfan was a strong soul, a proficient actor with several filmfare awards and a National Award in his kitty. Although slightly reserved by nature, ‘Padma Shri’ the modest, unassuming Irrfan had this tongue-in-cheek sense of humor. Off-screen he often regaled his co-stars and crew with his witty punch-lines We will all miss him. R.I.P Irrfan-bhai
