Superstar Amitabh Bachchan to be conferred with prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award-2019….which coincides with the ‘golden jubilee’ (50th) year of his acting career
By Chaitanya Padukone – Millions of die-hard Indian loyal fans of mega-star actor Amitabh Bachchan and of course the entire Bollywood film-fraternity are all immensely delighted The versatile ‘Shahenshah’ of histrionics will soon be conferred with the coveted Dadasaheb Phalke Award honour from the Govt. of India . This was announced by the Union I & B minister Prakash Javadekar . The highest honour in Indian Cinema instituted in the name of Dadasaheb (Dhundiraj Govind) Phalke—hailed as the pioneer-father of Indian Cinema— for the Big B seems to be well-timed. That’s because this year (2019) happens to the ‘golden jubilee’ (50 years ) of his acting career, having made his debut with ‘Saat Hindustani’ in 1969. The unassuming Bachchan-saab responded with his prompt message to all those who earnestly complimented him, including this senior film-journalist who knows him personally over past three decades. “ I am deeply grateful and so humbled .. My sincerest gratitude”, he acknowledged. Among the galaxy of iconic celebs who complimented the illustrious Senior Bachchan includes Lata Mangeshkar. Rajinikanth, Mohanlal, Nagarjuna, Sachin Tendulkar and Karan Johar Four times National Award winner for his sterling performances, the bass-baritone voiced KBC- Sony TV quiz-show host Big B ( also a style-icon) has come a long way from his initial major mega- hits like ‘Bombay To Goa’ and of course ‘Zanjeer’, ‘Deewaar’ and ‘Sholay’ to the recent movies like ‘Piku’ and ‘Badla’. It may be recalled that the music-savvy, benevolent Amitabh was honoured by the film-fraternity in the esteemed presence of thespian legend Dilip Kumar-saab and Saira Banu with the Dadasaheb Phalke Ratna Academy Award in the year 2012 in Mumbai . Which ushered in the onset of the ‘Centenary Year’ grand celebrations of glorious Indian cinema and its star-studded Bollywood film-industry. Incidentally, at this same awards event, eminent senior film journalist Chaitanya Padukone ( who has written this piece) was also honoured with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award (2012) at the hands of actress Kajol.
