The New Luxury Responsible Sourcing in the Fashion Leather & Apparel Industry


This evening, as part of Festa Italiana 2018, acclaimed Italian Fashion & Design school, Istituto Marangoni, in collaboration with the Indo-Italian Chambers of Commerce & Industry, held an interesting and informative panel discussion called, ‘The New Luxury: Responsible Sourcing in the Fashion, Leather & Apparel Industry’.

Annually bringing together the best of Italy that India has to offer – fashion, food, furniture and design, technology and engineering, amongst other – the 11th edition of Festa Italiana 2018 saw the panellists address various issues pertaining to Sustainability, that have brought a significant change to the way in which traditional luxury is viewed in India.

Moderated by Rachana Singh – Fashion Business Faculty, Istituto Marangoni, the panellists for the evening were Entrepreneur, Fashion Designer and Istituto Marangoni Brand Ambassador Rahul Mishra, Jay Lakhani, Co-Founder and Designer at hand-made fashion jewellery brand, Deepa Gurnani, Stefano Funari – Founder, I Was a Sari, Cesare Saccani – Managing Director, ICMQ India, Prashant Sude – Head of CSR Hub, Tata Social Institute and Premal Udani – Managing Director, Kaytee Corporation.

The talk focused on how the principles of sustainability and responsibility have increasingly become a global phenomenon and the ways in which this is affecting the strategies and operations of Indian and Italian fashion brands, suppliers, professionals, and operators at large – thus highlighting the definition of ‘New Luxury’.
