Priyanka Chopra Profile:

For this self confessed geeky Jamshedpur born gal, Bollywood was never in the grand scheme of things. The daughter of physicians, Priyanka Chopra dreamt of becoming a software engineer or criminal psychologist, but never in her wildest dreams had she imagined that she would be tinsel town’s most sought after actress one day. Much before she started her reign over B’Town this slender actress used to rule the world. From doing small time modelling while studying at Jai Hind College, Mumbai, her career took a mammoth leap when she won the title of Miss World in 2000. A year later, Priyanka made her acting debut with the Tamil film ‘Thamizhan’. Her foray into Bollywood came with Anil Sharma’s ‘The Hero: Love Story of a Spy’ where she starred in a supporting role opposite Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta. But it was her next film, ‘Andaaz’, which struck box office gold and gave her the Filmfare ‘Best Female Debut’ Award. After a steady string of flops (‘Plan’, ‘Kismat’ and ‘Asambhav’) David Dhawan’s comical three way romance ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ hit the jackpot.

Priyanka’s next celluloid appearance in ‘Aitraaz’as the sexy spouse stealing siren made critics sit up and take notice. Her premier attempt at playing a negative role earned her a Filmfare ‘Best Villain’ award and many thought that PC was on her way to the top. Priyanka’s next few B’Town expeditions in 2005 brought her crashing down. ‘Blackmail’, ‘Karam’, ‘Yakeen’ and ‘Barsaat’ bombed at the box office while ‘Waqt: The Race Against Time’ and ‘Bluffmaster’ only just managed to do decently well. 2006 turned out to be a much better year for Priyanka with Rakesh Roshan’s ‘Krrish’ and Farhan Akhtar’s ‘Don – The Chase Begins’ being firm favourites at the box office. In spite of disasters like ‘Love Story 2050’, ‘God Tussi Great Ho’, ‘Chamku’ and ‘Drona’, 2007 turned out to be twice as nice for her. B’Town’s Piggy Chops bagged both the Filmfare and National Film awards for ‘Best Actress’, for her role as small townie turned supermodel Meghna Mathur in Madhur Bhandarkar’s ‘Fashion’. PC’s popularity soared and she was signed on to do films with some of the biggest banners in the industry. If ‘Fashion’ was Priyanka’s optimum in terms of acting prowess, ‘Dostana’ was the highest point with regards to her looks and glamour quotient. As the modern Miami babe working at a fashion magazine, PC looked smashing and took hotness to a whole new level. Her next role, in complete contrast, was that of a Maharashtrian ‘mulgi’ in Vishal Bhardwaj’s gritty crime thriller ‘Kaminey’.
As the fiery sister of an underworld don, who’s madly in love with one of Shahid Kapoor’s twin characters, Priyanka was surprisingly believable. With Ashutosh Gowariker’s ‘What’s Your Raashee?’ Priyanka pushed the envelope and achieved a great feat. She became the world’s first actress to essay 12 distinct characters in a single film. The film however, sank without a trace, as did her first release of 2010, ‘Pyaar Impossible’. As Alisha Merchant, the college hottie who finally falls in love with Uday Chopra’s geeky character, PC failed to impress critics and audiences alike. Her next film contained only a tiny glimmer of hope. She was paired opposite heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor for the first time ever in Siddharth Raj Anand’s ‘Anjaana Anjaani’. Though their chemistry drew in the crowds initially, the film was eventually a financial failure. ‘Saat Khoon Maaf’ is PC’s second outing with director Vishal Bhardwaj. She shares screen space with known names such as Naseeruddin Shah, Irrfan Khan, Annu Kapoor,John Abraham and Neil Nitin Mukesh.

Her next film was ‘Don 2 - The Chase Continues’, opposite Shah Rukh Khan. The film went on to become an average grosser. Her first film of 2012, ‘Agneepath’, opposite Hrithik Roshan, turned out to gross more than 100 crore at the box office. Her last release was Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’, where she received a lot of appreciation for playing an autistic girl. Her upcoming films include ‘Krrish 3’ and yet another remake, ‘Zanjeer’.
